The Tailor and the Ghost
Once upon a time, there was a young tailor named Tommy who lived in a small village near a big castle. Tommy wasn't very tall or strong, but he was clever and loved to make people laugh. He was known for his quick fingers and even quicker wit.
One day, the lord of the castle, Mr. MacDonald, came to Tommy with a special job.
"Tommy," he said, "I need a new pair of fancy pants. But here's the catch - you have to make them at night in the old church. Be careful, though: people say it's haunted!"
Tommy's friends gasped, but he just grinned.
"Sounds like fun!" he said. "I'm not scared of any old ghosts."
That night, Tommy skipped to the church, whistling a happy tune. He found a comfy tombstone to sit on, lit his candle, and started sewing.
Suddenly, the floor began to shake!
The head of a ghost popped out of the ground.
"Do you see my big head?" it boomed.
Tommy gulped but kept sewing. "Yep, but I've got pants to finish!"
The ghost rose higher out of the ground. "Do you see my neck?" it asked in a loud voice.
"Sure do," Tommy replied, his fingers flying. "But these pants won't sew themselves!"
The ghost rose even higher. "Do you see my shoulders?" it asked.
"I see that, but I'll sew this!" Tommy shouted, working even faster.
This went on and on.
Just as the ghost was about to step fully out of the ground, Tommy finished the pants with a triumphant "Ta-da!"
He grabbed the pants, blew out his candle, and raced out of the church!
The ghost roared and chased after him, but Tommy was too quick.
He ran all the way back to the castle, his heart pounding but a big smile on his face.
He slammed the castle gate shut just as the ghost caught up.
The ghost was so angry it left a handprint on the castle wall - you can still see it today if you look closely!
Mr. MacDonald was amazed by Tommy's bravery and gave him a big reward. From that day on, everyone in the village called him "Fearless Tommy the Tailor."
And Tommy? Well, he just laughed and said, "Who knew making pants could be such an adventure?"
