The Magic Pot

Once upon a time, there was a kind old lady named Granny May. She lived in a small village and didn't have much money, but she always had a big smile on her face. Granny May helped out around the village, running errands for busy people. Sometimes, they'd give her a cooked meal or some warm clothes as a thank you.

One sunny afternoon, Granny May was walking home after a long day of helping others. Her feet were tired, and she was looking forward to sitting in her comfy chair. Suddenly, she spotted something strange on the side of the road. It was a big, shiny black pot!

"Wow!" Granny May exclaimed, her eyes wide with surprise. "That's one fancy pot! I wonder who left it here?" She looked around, but there was no one in sight.

Granny May's curiosity got the best of her. "Maybe I could use it as a flower pot," she thought, reaching for the lid. But when she peeked inside, she gasped!

The pot was filled to the brim with shimmering gold coins!

Granny May's heart raced with excitement. "Oh my goodness!" she squealed, doing a little happy dance. "I'm rich! I'm rich!" She imagined all the wonderful things she could do with the money – buy a cozy house, help her neighbors, and maybe even get that pair of fluffy slippers she'd been eyeing in the shop window.

But the pot was too heavy for Granny May to carry. So, she tied her scarf to it and started pulling it home, giggling like a little girl the whole way.

After a while, Granny May got tired and stopped to rest. When she looked at her pot again, she blinked in surprise. The gold coins had turned into a big chunk of silver!

"Well, I'll be!" Granny May laughed. "Silver's nice too. It'll be easier to spend than all those gold coins."

She kept walking, dreaming about her new life as a rich lady. But when she stopped to rest again, the silver had changed into a lump of iron!

Granny May just shrugged and smiled. "Iron's useful! I can sell it and still get some money."

As she neared her little cottage, Granny May checked on her pot one last time. To her amazement, it had turned into a big rock!

"Perfect!" she chuckled. "I needed something to keep my door open on hot days."

But just as Granny May was about to untie her scarf, the strangest thing happened. The rock suddenly sprang to life! It grew legs, ears, and a tail, and then galloped away, laughing like a silly kid.

Granny May watched it disappear down the road, her mouth hanging open in shock. Then, she burst out laughing.

"Well, I'll be!" she said, wiping tears of laughter from her eyes. "I just met the famous Hedley Kow – the magical trickster from all those old stories! What an adventure!"

As Granny May walked into her cottage, she realized something important. She might not be rich with money, but she was rich with wonderful experiences and a heart full of joy. And that, she decided, was the best treasure of all.
