Luminous Lily
Once upon a time, in a country far away, there lived a kind-hearted girl named Lily with her older stepsister and stepmother. Lily loved to explore nature and make friends with animals, while all her stepsister could think of was fancy clothes and riches.
When Lily grew up, she asked her stepmother for a chance to go on an adventure. The stepmother wanted to save every penny for a fancy wedding for the stepsister, but she remembered a large black bull she had bought the day before from a traveling merchant. The merchant had been eager to get rid of the bull, claiming it was too troublesome to handle.
"Lily, we have no money for a horse. This bull will have to do in stead." She thought Lily would be too scared to go or that the bull would be too difficult to control.
But Lily wasn't easily discouraged. She packed a small bag and approached the bull. To everyone's surprise, the huge animal seemed to calm down as soon as Lily came near. She gently patted its nose and climbed onto its back.
"Thank you, stepmother," Lily said politely, and off they went down the road.
As soon as they were out of sight, the most amazing thing happened – the bull spoke! "Hello, Lily," it said in a deep, kind voice. "I've been waiting for someone like you. Are you ready for a real adventure?"
Lily's eyes widened with wonder. "You can talk!" she exclaimed. "Oh yes, I'm ready for anything!"
And so began their incredible journey. The bull, who told Lily to call him Noir, was not just any ordinary animal. He was wise and magical, able to provide Lily with food and guidance. "If you're hungry," he told her, "just reach into my right ear for food and my left ear for drink." It sounded strange, but Lily tried it and found the most delicious meals she'd ever tasted!
They traveled far and wide, visiting magnificent castles and meeting all sorts of interesting people. At each castle, Lily was given a magical fruit – first an apple, then a pear, and finally a plum. She was told to save these for when she was in real trouble.
Their journey wasn't always easy. They faced many challenges, but Lily's kindness and Noir's wisdom always saw them through. Lily learned to be brave, to think quickly, and to never judge others by their appearance.
One day, they came to a dark, spooky forest. Noir looked worried.
"Lily," he said, "there's a mean wizard in this forest. He put a spell on me to make me a bull. I have to go find him to break the spell, but it's too dangerous for you."
Lily didn't want Noir to go alone. "Please don't leave me!" she cried.
"I have to," said Noir. "Wait here. If I'm not back after one day, you should go on without me."
Lily was scared, but she wanted to help her friend. She took off a small silver pendant shaped like a lily flower. "This was my mom's," she said. "It will keep you safe."
Lily tied it around his neck. It shone brightly on his chest. "I'll bring it back soon," he promised.
Lily watched as Noir disappeared into the dark trees. She waited and waited. One day passed, then two, then three. Lily was hungry and thirsty, but she didn't want to leave.
Meanwhile, Noir found the wizard. The wizard tried to hurt Noir, but Lily's pendant protected him. After a long battle, Noir defeated the wizard, but was so tired he fell into a deep sleep for a whole week!
When Noir woke up, the wizard was gone and Noir wasn't a bull anymore. He was a handsome knight! He hurried back to find Lily, but she was gone.
Poor Lily had waited as long as she could. After three days, she had to leave to find food and water.
After leaving the forest, Lily walked for days. She was tired, hungry, and very sad. Finally, she came to a village. Lily was so hungry and tired that she could barely stand.
A kind old blacksmith saw her and felt sorry for her. "Are you okay?" he asked gently.
Lily shook her head, tears in her eyes. The blacksmith patted her shoulder. "Come with me," he said. "I'll give you some food and a place to rest."
The blacksmith, whose name was Tom, gave Lily a warm meal and a soft bed. When Lily felt better, she told him her story. Tom listened carefully and then said, "Why don't you stay here for the night? We can go looking for your friend tomorrow." The next day, she tried to find her way back, but the forest had changed. No matter how hard she looked, Lily could not find the same spot again where she and Noir had parted.
Meanwhile, Lily was so helpful around the forge, that Tom asked her, "Would you like to work with me? I can teach you how to be a blacksmith."
Lily thought this was a wonderful idea. She worked hard and learned quickly. Soon, she could make horseshoes and fix all sorts of metal things.
Many years passed. The magic of her travels with Noir faded, but she kept the memories of their time together close to her heart. She never gave up hope that they would meet again.
One day, a handsome knight came to the forge. He needed his armor fixed. As Lily hammered out the dents, she noticed something strange. Every time her hammer hit the metal of the breastplate, a glowing pattern appeared. It looked just like her lily pendant!
Lily's heart beat fast. "Noir!" she thought. But instead of her knight collecting the armor, it was her stepsister! She told Lily that she was getting ready to marry a handsome knight.
Lily knew she had to do something. She remembered the magic fruits she had been given on her journey. When she held the apple, she realized there was something inside. Using her blacksmith tools, she pried it open and inside found precious rubies and emeralds. Quickly, she went to her stepsister and said, "If you delay the wedding by one day, I'll give you all these precious stones." Her stepsister, who loved riches above anything else, agreed.
That night, Lily snuck up to the knight's window. Softly, she began to sing a sweet song about their adventures together.
*"Through forests dark and mountains tall,
We've journeyed far, we've given all.
My friend, my knight, do you hear my call?
Remember the lily that wouldn't fall."*
But what Lily didn't know was that her stepsister had given Noir a powerful sleeping potion.
The knight heard Lily's song in his dreams, but he couldn't wake up.
The next day, Lily opened the second fruit, a pear, and found dazzling jewelry inside. She went to her stepsister again to bargain for another day's delay. That night, she sang again. Noir's dreams were filled with memories of Lily and their time together, but still, he couldn't wake up.
On the third day, Lily opened her last fruit, a plum, and found gold inside. She used it to delay the wedding one more time. She knew this was her last chance. That night, she poured all her love and hope into her song.
Inside, Noir was so sad about losing Lily that his sorrow became stronger than the sleeping potion. As Lily's song reached his ears, his eyes finally opened! He rushed to the window and saw Lily standing there.
"Lily!" he cried happily. "It's really you! I've been looking everywhere for you!"
Lily and Noir hugged each other tight. They told each other everything that had happened.
The next day, instead of a wedding for the stepsister, there was a wedding for Lily and her knight. Everyone in the village came to celebrate, including Tom the blacksmith, who was as proud as a father.
Even Lily's stepsister was happy for her, because she saw how true love is more important than being rich.
Lily and Noir lived happily ever after, going on many more adventures together. And Lily never forgot that being brave, kind, and never giving up can lead to the greatest adventures of all.
